Anwar is out of town, so I am going it solo this week with the kids. Nikolai woke up at 2:30 am the other morning and, since he has been sick, I just went in and got him figuring he could just sleep with me.
He had a different idea.
He had a different idea.
First I felt a finger poke right into my eye and heard Nik whisper "eye", then he nearly picked my nose and said "nose", "mouth"...you get it. Then, after he was done naming stuff and poking my face, he started saying TV over and over because he thought that would make me turn it on. I don't think my explanation of "there are no cartoons on at 2:30 am was sufficient because he got bored and got off the bed and started wandering around the house. He pretty quickly went to for cat food - because hey - it was the perfect time to feed the cat. So the cat hears Nik rummaging through her food and gets all excited because she thinks, "awesome! I am going to eat early today!"
So now, I have a toddler wandering the halls, a cat meowing over and over because she is confused about why she doesn't have any food yet and me really, really wanting to sleep.
So I thought, fuck it, and picked up Nik and put him back in his crib assuming he was going to freak out on my for doing so.
Nope. He went right to sleep. Next time I know just to leave the kid in his crib. Sheesh.

I can totally relate. Although, I just need to get up to check on the kids and our cat thinks its time to start meowing.
It's amazing how they teach us these little lessons - like a slap in the face.
